Sahaja Yoga’s Answers-Definitions

“Self-realisation or Self-knowledge is the destination of human evolution and also of all the religions. This is the last breakthrough a human being has to achieve, for which there is a complete living machinery placed in the human spinal cord and in the brain. This machinery is being established step by step during our evolution.

This living machinery works out through its power manifesting the parasympathetic and both sympathetic nervous systems. Whatever we achieve in evolution is expressed by our conscious mind through the central nervous system.

To connect us to this subtle energy which permeates into every atom and molecule, there is also a Power of Pure Desire which is placed in the sacrum bone of human beings, which is called as Kundalini. “Kundal” means “coils”. It exists in three and a half coils. There is a Divine mathematical coefficient about three and a half coils.

This triangular bone is called “sacrum”, that means that the people in Greece in the ancient times knew about this divine sacred power of Kundalini; that is why they called this bone sacred. This sacrum bone is placed at the base of the spinal cord and it is triangular in shape.

The Kundalini is like a connecting cord as in every piece of electrical machinery, which connects the machinery to the main source of electricity.

In the same way, when this energy of Kundalini is awakened, threads (some of them) rise and ultimately connect the human being to the all-pervading power (Paramachaitanya).

It is a spontaneous happening, it is a living process. The whole evolutionary process has been a living process, and now a stage has come for human beings to have the last state of Spiritual existence through Self-realisation.

Human being can be compared to a seed which is not active spiritually, and has not started its living process of growth in Spirituality, but when it is embedded in the Mother Earth, the Mother Earth has the power, (with the help of water) to sprout the seed.

In the same way the Kundalini can be awakened spontaneously by the power of Sahaja Yoga.

When this Kundalini rises, a new life process starts in the human awareness, resulting in the growth of spirituality. This spiritual life growth is a new state into which a human being starts growing in his innate Divinity. This nourishes and enlightens his physical, mental, emotional and spiritual being.

This living process is very clearly described in Indian scriptures since ancient times. There are 108 Upanishadas in the Sanskrit language which have exposed the knowledge about Kundalini awakening and the spiritual ascent. Also it is indicated in other scriptures of other countries. In the Bible it is called the tree of life and it is quoted that, “I will appear before you like tongues of flames”. When the Kundalini rises, She passes through various centres which look like tongues of flames when enlightened.

The Cool Breeze of the Holy Ghost of Pentecost is this power that you can feel in Sahaja Yoga. In the Gospel of St. Thomas, very clearly describes the Sahaja experience as the ultimate of our religious life. Also it says we must look after our centres. This Kundalini has to ascend and pierce through six subtle centres which are placed in the spinal cord and in the brain. The last breakthrough is the actualisation of the “Baptism” as one feels the cool breeze of the Holy Ghost emitting out of one’s fontanel bone area.”

( first Chapter: Sahaja Yoga  (excerpt)- from an early book based on Shri Mataji’s teachings)

“..People felt the Cool breeze coming out of their heads.”

Definition-Explanation of Baptism in Sahaja Yoga Meditation

“..People felt the Cool breeze coming out of their heads. Can you do that by jumping, or by paying money?! They felt the cool breeze in the hand. It’s written in the Bible, even in the Bible very clearly, that it’s The Cool Breeze, cool breeze is the sign of the Holy Ghost. You start feeling the cool breeze in your hands and you start feeling the cool breeze on your head. This is the actualization.

Of course, people don’t read other books which are very good, like Adi Shankaracharya. People don’t even like the mention of his name who has really and clearly said that it is the cool breeze: the chaitanya (the divine power) is to be felt like cool breeze in the hands. They do not want that you should know the truth. And this is the Truth: that when you get your Realization you have to feel the Cool Breeze in your hands yourself. You have to judge yourself.

I’m not going to tell you, it is you who has to see, it is you who has to feel, and then you have to grow and you have to know all and everything, all the secrets of Divine Science.

You become the master then, you are the guru. You are the Spirit, and you should get it, it’s your own which is given to you. I have nothing to do about it, I’m just a catalyst...

You see, I don’t work much in the cities, I work in the villages because villagers are easier to get realization; the other day we were in a village called Kadus, where six thousand people got realization, it was announced in the (news)paper. So, in the cities these gurus work out because they want money and the purse, you see, it’s there in the cities ..

I work in the villages…where they don’t even have proper bathrooms, you have to go to the rivers to have your bath and.. it was very spartan for comfortable Australians.

And now they know such a lot about Kundalini, about awakening, about enlightenment. It’s all logical after realization, before that it is blind rationality, which doesn’t understand anything.

This Kundalini is there, your own, Sahaja. ‘Saha’ means ‘with’, ‘ja’ means ‘born’; it’s born with you, it’s within you ! It has to only rise with authority, with a person who knows how to do it. One should not feel hurt about it because I’m doing it. You see, I’m a very happily married woman, you know, I don’t need anything.  My husband has permitted me to go about doing this because he knows nobody can do it. I’ll be very happy if you can do it, really I would like to retire :-) . Moreover why should you feel bad if I do it ?! After all there are so many things I can’t do. I can’t drive, I can’t type, I don’t know even how to open your tins, I’m so hopelessly bad.. So what is there to feel bad about it if I know how to raise the Kundalini and when it is your right to know yourself and to get it within yourself so that you achieve your real baptism, your real force, and once you have achieved it, first thing that happens is that you become a different personality. You become something so different.

I’m talking about the unlimited; our rationality is limited, our brains are limited. But many things can be understood. So many people reached the conclusion that it is the Kundalini awakening, is the one which is going to give us Self-Realization. Through their limited brain only, they reached it. They also reached so many conclusions, that like persons like Jung, the disciple of Mr. Freud ‘the great’..

( *Jung) was such a sensible man that he said you must get your realization, you must get your self-realization, and he prepared the ground for Sahaja Yoga, for he said, when you get your self-realization, you will become collectively conscious. He talked about it.”

(Excerpt from Shri Mataji’s lecture in Australia, Sydney 1981 on March 22nd, in Maccabean Hall)

” So many people who are real scholars, who are seekers, have reached the conclusion that it is the awakening of the Kundalini only that gives you your second birth, your Baptism, but they do not know how it will work out because it is a living force… You cannot pull the primule out of the seed, you cannot force a flower to become a fruit, you cannot pay money for it, you cannot rationalise it or mock at it or laugh at it or if you doubt it whatever it is. It will work out when it has to work out. In the same way today we are at the junction of a great happening, en-masse realisation has to take place, evolution has to take place, otherwise this creation will have no meaning, you will have no meaning either. So don’t worry for cheap sensations and sensational stuff that is around, you have to ask for the Real and that real you will only ask for if you have self esteem, that you understand that you have to get the real and not something that you can purchase on the market!!..

This is what you have to ask.. this Kundalini rises and gives you your baptism in the fontanelle area. The time is so short that I can’t describe the whole lot to you… When there is Kundalini crosses over the Agnya chakra which is the centre of Christ, you become thoughtlessly aware – you become – again I say it’s the becoming; then it crosses the fontanelle bone. This is the real baptism one can say – you can feel the cool breeze on the hands from the all pervading power around; but that’s not the end of it – it’s just the beginning. It’s just that your seed has been germinated but as Christ has said – some seeds got lost because they’re places on the rock. So do not have a heart of a rock – just keep it open, keep it open. You’ll feel very relaxed also – extremely relaxed. You have to ask for it. You have to say, ‘Mother give us our self realisation please,’ you have to knock on the door. If you if you are arrogant about it – it’s rather difficult for me. You are asking for such a great thing which you have been seeking for ages – for many lives.
In humility you have to ask – if it works it’s your own gain – if it doesn’t – we’ll work it out later. Not to condemn yourself for that, you’ve no way to feel guilty please don’t feel guilty about any thing – whatever you’ve done forget it – don’t feel guilty – that’s one of the diseases people have, when I say something, they start feeling guilty about it. Not to feel guilty about because what guilt can have with what wrong can you do – in the presence of God who is the ocean of love. He is ocean of love. Kundalini is universally there, exists in everyone – She is your Mother – She is you individual Mother. Mother – that is the desire. The pure desire which is waiting for a chance to give you your second birth.

And when She rises, She touches the seat of Spirit on the fontanel bone area and the

Spirit – which enjoys itself by itself – shines in your awareness and you get collectively conscious – please put your hands out.

.. Please don’t doubt me for the time being because I’m not selling anything – I’ve spent my own money for Sahaja. I have come here to give you a gift which you desire. ..you have to become. Just feel it … if you are feeling the Cool Breeze, it’s a Subtle thing. It’s very Subtle – so be careful.”

What is Kundalini  & What is Not Kundalini? Response with Essential Definitions & Clarifications

“We can change the whole world and you start understanding the problems of the world and you can get rid of them with your Kundalini awakening. Such a great thing is this Kundalini, I tell you, that it makes human beings something Superlative. It’s all described as sayings and this and that, but a Sahaja Yogi has a greater power and the greater power is that he can make others Sahaja Yogi[s].”

Shri Mataji – the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation

What is Self Realization? Answers & Connections to Pure Energy, Desire and Knowledge

“First of all, I think this is the most important thing to understand about your own Kundalini, as Self Realization is Self Knowledge and the one who gives you Self Knowledge is this, your own Kundalini because when She rises, She points it out what are the problems on your chakras. Now, we say that it is pure desire, but we do not know what purity means. It means your chaste desire.

It means it has no lust, greed, anything in it. That power is your own Mother and is settled in your triangular bone. She’s your own mother. She knows everything about you. It’s like a tape recorder. She knows everything about you and She is absolutely the Knowledge because She’s so pure. And whatever chakras She touches, She also knows what’s wrong with that chakra beforehand. So She’s quite prepared and She adjusts Herself fully so that you do not get a problem by Her awakening. If any chakra is constricted, She waits and goes on slowly opening that chakra.

Now, this Kundalini is the Primordial Power which is reflected within you and within you, in a human being, it is like many strands of energy. So it’s like a rope and these energies are all twisted together to form this Kundalini.

In a human being these strands are three into seven – that is twenty-one – raised to power hundred and eight. But when your Kundalini rises, one or two strands out of this come up and pierce the fontanel bone area. Only one or two because it has to pass through the inner most nadi, known as Brahma Nadi. It’s all a spiral throughout because Kundalini is a spiral and these nadis are also are like a spiral like this. So the innermost nadi is the Brahma Nadi. The outermost nadi is the right side and the second innermost is the Ida Nadi.

So, through the Brahma Nadi, She starts sending those threads. By that, they relax the centre. By the relaxation of the centre, the sympathetic nervous system also starts relaxing and when it goes to the Agnya Chakra, then your eyes start relaxing, your pupils start dilating and your eyes can become like Mine, very black, absolutely relaxed.

So, you can easily see in a person how far is the Kundalini. If it has pierced the Agnya, then the eyes will be completely dilated and will be shining and then She (Kundalini) enters into the Sahasrara.

Now, it is absolutely pure light of knowledge, love, compassion and attention. All these three things are in that energy. We know of many energies like electrical energy. We know of light energy. We know of other energies. But these energies cannot think. They cannot adjust. They cannot work on their own. They are to be handled by us.

But this energy (Kundalini), itself is the Living Energy and knows how to handle itself. It thinks.

If you see a seed being sprouted, you’ll find at the tip of the seed there’s a small little cell which knows how to go around the soft places and then how to encircle the stones and then how to find its way to the source.

That cell has got, I would say, a little Kundalini in it, the way it moves.

But within you .. a tremendous force of Kundalini exists.

So, you have a Storehouse of Compassion, which can be Enlightened by the Spirit. You have the Storehouse of Love, Compassion and Knowledge and Ocean of Forgiveness. When people get Realization, they do not understand that they have to now grow. And why they don’t grow? Because they do not ask for these energies. A person who is a realized soul, if he says, ‘I have to have more compassion. My compassion is not all right. My concern about others is not all right. My generosity is not all right. I’m exploiting others. I’m exploiting their love,’ then this energy starts moving, giving you that greater dimension of love and compassion. But if you do not want to be growing in your awareness, then She (Kundalini) says, ‘All right. He is a half-baked Sahaja Yogi. Let it be.’ She doesn’t supply that energy which is stored within you, I told you, (it is) three into seven, that is twenty-one, raised to power hundred and eight. So what a storehouse you have within yourself!

But because of your mundane style of thinking and asking – in the beginning, when I started Sahaja Yoga people used to ask for, say, jobs or for ‘my mother is sick’ or a father is sick or they would ask for money or something like that. So these wants are not pure wants. As we know in economics, they are not pure wants. They’re impure wants because they are never satiable in general.”

Higher Personality – Deeper Personality – Wider Personality

“So this Kundalini that is your Mother, She is there to supply you, nourish you, to look after you, to make you grow by giving you a higher personality – higher personality, wider personality, deeper personality. Now, we think if somebody is well read, then we think he is a higher personality. Sometimes a person who is rich, we think he is a higher personality. Sometimes we think a person who is very hard working is a higher personality. Sometimes we think a person who is, I mean, some sort of a confusion about religion or something, we think he is a higher personality. Our ideas about higher personality itself are wrong. People are higher because they are spiritually evolved.

Otherwise, they are not.”

all above represent excerpts from a Synopsis on the Primordial Kundalini and Individual Kundalini, 1991-08-11 – lecture by the founder of Sahaja Yoga meditation, Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

What are the ways and means to raise the Kundalini?

Monday, September 26th, 2011

Question: What are the ways and means to raise the Kundalini and what are the symptoms?

Rising of the Kundalini

Shri Mataji: The first one is I’ll do it now, so you will see it’s nothing so special, but the second one is that when you get your Realization first thing that happens to you that you become thoughtlessly aware to begin with when it crosses over Agnya chakra and when it pierces through this one you can feel the cool breeze coming out of your head, you can feel the cool breeze around yourself.

Now all these fingers are shown there you can see. They denote your centers. Only you have to understand the decoding of it.

Now supposing you take ten children who are realized souls and you tie their eyes and ask them: “What’s the matter with this gentleman?” Immediately, they will all raise the same finger, supposing they raise this finger and you ask that person: “Are you suffering from bronchitis?” They’ll say: “Yes, how do you know?” So, all these centers are decoded and once they are decoded if you know the decoding, if you know how to decode it, then it’s so easy, very easy you find out.

So this is the only thing we have to know about the decoding part of it, what is the center we are catching, what is the center others are catching? Now if you know how to correct the centers, you are all right. And the others are all right. It’s very simple it’s either left side or right side. Only two problems, basically.

Kundalini

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Kundalini is the power of pure desire within us, a motherly and soothing spiritual energy which lies dormant at the base of the spine in the sacrum bone (the ancient civilizations knew that in this bone resides a sacred energy).

Self-Realisation is the awakening of the Kundalini through the central channel, piercing through the six chakras above the sacrum bone and emerging at the top of the head (fontanelle bone area) as a gentle “fountain” of coolness. The word fontanelle itself means “little fountain” which shows again the ancient knowledge about this phenomenon of Self-Realisation.

Many of the great developmentalists have referred to the process of self-realisation. Abraham Maslow for example refers to the Meta-Motivation we have as we seek to evolve to the state of Self-Actualisation, in his Pyramidal Hierarchy of Needs diagram. Carl Jung talks about the intrinsic God-consciousness seated within us.

Self-Realisation has always been the ultimate goal of all religions and spiritual traditions of the world, but was extremely difficult to attain in the past. It can now be effortlessly achieved through Sahaja Yoga, which is Shri Mataji’s invaluable gift to humanity.

In Shri Mataji’s own words, “Self-realisation is the first encounter with reality”. “We have the Mother within ourselves, in our hearts, and if She is awakened, She is going to look after us. She is going to give all the protection that is needed. And there is nothing to be frightened of.”

“Kundalini cures you, she improves you, she bestows all the blissful things upon you. She takes you away from the worries of the grosser level”, says Shri Mataji.

The manifestation of the Kundalini energy is called vibrations , which is an approximate translation of the Sanskrit term Chaitanya. In Shri Mataji’s words, “Chaitanya (vibrations) is the integrated force of your physiological, mental, emotional and spiritual self.”

Hvad siger din mavefornemmelse dig?

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Sahaja Yoga Atlanta

Author

The Atlanta collective is a bunch of seekers some of who found the truth in Sahaja meditation after many years and some who were fortunate to learn Sahaja meditation in school/college. There are folks from diverse backgrounds, nationalities and ages that form a part of this collective. The collective has people who tried Reiki, Mantra based meditation, Buddhist meditation, Catholic based worship and other forms before coming to Sahaja meditation. Now, the collective’s objective is to spread this love of the divine to other seekers so they too can realize the immense benefits of Sahaja meditation. Sahaja Atlanta

Imagine yourself starting to live in a world that is there but not yet there. Where everything works perfectly and there is a “network” established that is self-sufficient, beautiful and immaculate. It’s like the movie Avatar. You go into a world where everything works in a perfect balance and you are supported with everything that is around you – the plants, trees, animals, humans and whatnot. And where healing takes place through divine love and the power of the network.

If I were you, reading this article, then I would certainly wonder can such a world exist where we all cross boundaries between ourselves and Mother Nature to live in the true realm of the Divine. And, especially for a seeker of absolute truth and an ideal world, this would be a fascinating version of the truth.
Let’s now take it a step beyond the movie. If this new world had to co-exist with the real world and if the network could actually grow and help every member and if we could grow into a collective body that is there for everybody in every sense and constantly in support each other through divine vibrations that link us on this Earth with each other and mother nature – wow, it sounds amazing. But what is this going to be part two of the Avatar movie?

Again, if I were you reading this article I would start thinking, “Is this another sales pitch for another yoga program costing a lot of money?” Just so you feel comfortable, no, definitely not, there is no money involved. Speak with Sahaja Yogis and they will tell you how they are able to feel the Divine and the network they have created in this real world that is connected to the Divine. Ask them how they do it? The answer is: through vibrations.

Now what exactly are these vibrations? Well, it is such a beautiful feeling that makes you feel very light and relaxed with a cool breeze flowing over your hands and body when you are completely established with the Divine. Now where do these vibrations come from? The answer is really from within us and outside as well through the love of Mother Nature or the “network,” as we saw in the Avatar. Sahaja Yogis use vibrations in their lives every day to feel connected with each other, with this beautiful network of the Divine or Mother Nature, as you may call it. Believe it or not, they also use it to heal others and themselves. There is enough medical research done to establish the fact that Sahaja Yoga is a very practical way of curing many diseases. In a research paper written by Dr. Ramesh Manocha, he speaks of a study of Sahaja Yogis using a Quantitative Electro Encephalo Gram, which demonstrated widespread changes in brainwaves, with prominent theta wave activity at the precise moment that the Sahaja Yogis reported a state of complete mental silence and oneness.

Now how does anyone try to get into this beautiful network?
The answer lies in meditation, which is actually getting into a state of thoughtless awareness. Now hang on – what does that mean? It means you get into a state where you feel completely one with yourself and the Divine and are not affected by thoughts, which in reality come through your ego or past conditionings. The whole process of getting aware of this vibratory energy is called Self Realization. It means the awakening of a dormant motherly energy within us that, with a great amount of respect and pure desire, works within us and connects us to the network. That is when we achieve oneness with the Divine through vibratory awareness. The energy passes through our subtle energy centres in the process of connecting us.

It turns out that all of our problems, be they physical or mental illness or an emotional disorder, are nothing but the result of a prolonged imbalance in one or more of the subtle energy centres (chakras) or the left and right energy channels. If we can feel the state of our subtle system and detect such imbalances early on when they are initially triggered and if we can cure the imbalance at the energetic level, we can prevent many problems in our being long before their onset.

We are all made like a divine computer with everything built-in within us that is needed to exercise wisdom and discretion about what is good for us and what is not. After we experience Self Realization, this inner potential for wisdom, discretion and subtle understanding is awakened within us and becomes a part of our life. Just as the senses of sight, smell and taste are spontaneous and natural to us and we use them without thinking, a new sense also becomes an integral part of our being. Chaitanya (vibration) is the integrated force of your physiological, mental, emotional and religious selves.

This all becomes possible after Self Realization. As the motherly energy awakens within us and pierces through the seventh energy centre, we start feeling vibrations through our central nervous system. At the outset, we feel vibrations most prominently on the palms of our hands. The palms are like a barometer of the state of the energy centres within us and within others. This is the instrument by which we can develop our wisdom and discretion if we listen to it carefully.

Each part of the palm corresponds to a particular energy centre along our spine. The sensation of a gentle cool breeze on a finger that corresponds to a centre, indicates a balanced and clear state of that centre. On the other hand, a sensation of tingling, heat or burning indicates a subtle imbalance on that centre which can be removed though regular meditation and simple Sahaja meditation techniques. If you feel certain sensations on your palm after Realization, it is easy to interpret them. Simply use our subtle system guide and learn what brings the chakras into balance and what harms them.

There are many other medical professionals apart from Dr. Ramesh Manocha. In England, Russia, India, Australia and North America doctors and scientists have studied the health benefits of Sahaja meditation and its positive role in alleviating a host of illnesses. Some of results have been widely published and are available at www.freemeditation.ca.

So don’t wait any more and get connected with Sahaja Yoga today and become part of this beautiful network.

1. Meditation is not about doing:

It is easy to be in meditation, but it is extremely difficult to do meditation.
Imagine how difficult it would have been if we had to do breathing. Like all natural processes, meditation is spontaneous and effortless.

2. Meditation is a state:

It has a very great advantage of being a fact and not a fiction
- Socrates

Meditation is the state of silence where we can introspect without either guilt or pride. In the state of deep meditation, we can correct even the fundamental flaws of our personality effortlessly.
Meditation is a state that extends much beyond mere relaxation. It is the experience of a state called as ‘thoughtless awareness’ where we are not hindered by the thoughts arising from the worries of the past or the anxieties about the future and being in the present where we experience our true nature.

3. Meditation is not an exercise:

Breathing exercises or stretching exercises do not constitute meditation. They are merely techniques that can be used to enter into meditation.

4 . Not all who talk, know:

Stop thinking and talking about it and there is nothing you will not be able to know
- Zen Koan

People who talk about meditation sometimes have never actually experienced it. And even if someone has experienced it, it is of little value to us unless we can experience it ourselves too.

4. Meditation has no prerequisites:

It is not mandatory to have a silent room or peaceful settings to meditate. If there is noise outside, meditation will make you silent inside. It is possible to meditate even in a crowded train or during a crisis.

5.  Meditation is not giving up on life:

We don’t need to renounce our day-to-day activities in order to meditate. Instead, meditation helps us to do things better. Proper meditation does not make us passive; instead it makes us dynamic and energetic.

6. Meditation is not for sale:

Look and you will find it – what is unsought will go undetected
- Sophocles

You cannot buy meditation. You cannot sell meditation. You cannot do meditation. You cannot force meditation. Like all natural processes – like flowers blooming and seeds sprouting – meditation is spontaneous, effortless and always born out of the individual’s desire.
While it is easy to believe that more you pay, better the product/service you get, it is often untrue with meditation. People who spend millions usually learn nothing of value. Nowadays, a lot of ‘commercial yoga’ techniques are available in the market that promises extraordinary things but usually is observed to deliver nothing of much significance.

6. Knowing is not the same as being:

The story is about you
- Horace
Listening to lectures on meditation is not the same as the actual meditation itself. No amount of books can teach you swim unless you jump into the water.
A second’s experience is worth more than years of study. Direct perception is worth more than hours of listening to second-hand knowledge. To be is much greater than to know.

7. Abnormal behavior is not meditation:

It is no proof of a man’s understanding to be able to confirm whatever he pleases; but to be able to discern that which is true is true and that which is false is false, that is a mark of character and intelligence.
- Emanuel Swedenborg

Mind going blank, losing consciousness, doing weird things are things that are neither spiritual nor meditative. Many believe that anything that is paranormal is spiritual. However, from my experience, I have come to understand that true meditation is not something abnormal. It is a profound state of inner silence that helps us understand ourselves better. It is natural and uncomplicated. And has no price tag associated with it.

8. Meditation, a fashion statement?

The supreme happiness in life is the conviction that we are loved
- Victor Hugo
The ability to love oneself and other human beings equally is the most beautiful and attractive quality a human being can have. Meditation has the capacity to trigger this beautiful quality and thus is an eternal fashion statement. Meditation can never go out of fashion as long as humans desire for love and compassion.
